UK car production tops 1.5 million

THE NUMBER of cars built in the UK topped 1.5 million last year, the highest for six years, amid what's being called "surging" demand at home and abroad. Production increased by 3.1% in 2013, with analysts predicting that output would reach record levels of around two million by 2017. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said the UK was set to become the third largest car manufacturer in Europe after Germany and Spain.

BMW M5 Nighthawk special edition revealed in Japan

BMW has released a special limited edition of the M5 for the Japanese market called the Nighthawk. The special run of just 10 examples will feature a matte paint BMW calls "Frozen Black," which will extend to the 20-inch wheels fitted on the car. Other custom touches will include a blacked-out grille, with the Frozen black paint on a number of exterior details.

The Toyota EX-III was presented at the 1969 Tokyo motor show, alongside the EX-I and EX-II concepts. It was by far the most advanced and portrayed a Japanese answer to the American and European dream machines. Just like its smaller sibling, the EX-1, the mid-engined EX-III was designed 'for the increased safety and comfort that tomorrow's high-speed travel will demand,' said the brochure.
